Fair play winner Taylor Grant celebrates South Hampstead’s double in the Champions League
Fair Play Award for honest Taylor

South Hampstead do the double

CANDID captain Taylor Grant was praised for his honesty on Friday after winning the Fair Play Award following the finals of the Winchester Project’s Champions League, which was held at the sports pitch in Swiss Cottage.
The South Hampstead skipper, who led his team to glory in the boys’ under-11s category, received the prestigious accolade after finding a wallet containing £55 and a host of credit cards, and handing it straight into organisers of the competition.
Taylor, 11, who lives in Kilburn, said afterwards. “If it had been my mum’s purse I would like someone to have handed it in,” he said.
Camden Sports Development Officer and main organiser Lily Labonte congratulated the talented youngster for showing such honesty: “Its refreshing to know that there are young people out there who are responsible and caring. It wasn’t only about the money and the credit cards but also about the personal items that were in the wallet. The owner was so thrilled to get it back.”
On the pitch, Taylor’s leadership skills were just as admiring as he led his team to glory. Playing as Liverpool, South Hampstead were crowned champions after a closely fought final against Talacre, who were flying the flag for Wigan Football Club.
Midfield maestro Callum Doyle, who also lives in Kilburn, netted the winning goal as South Hampstead sealed a 1-0 victory to lift the five-a-side trophy.
There was double delight for the club as their under-13s side were also victorious. Playing as Lyon in another close finale, Thomas Hooker scored the only goal as South Hampstead ran out 1-0 winners against Venue, who were representing AC
South Hampstead became the latest team to lift the Champions League trophy.
In the girls’ final the previous week, Hampstead sealed a top two finish as the under-12s, playing as FC Porto, faced their under-11s club mates, who were representing Liverpool.
In the end, goals from Hannah McWilliams and Mim Sandler-Chadwick saw Porto run out 2-0 winners to take the trophy.
