People power
• IT'S good to be able to report a victory for local people and local action. Last Friday (May 18) the Planning Inspectorate dismissed Orange’s appeal to site a mobile phone mast on the corner of West End Lane and Dynham Road. This was the final, successful, step in a battle by local residents which last November saw the Liberal Democrat-led Council’s planning committee reject Orange’s original application. Many residents signed petitions, wrote to the council or the inspectors and spoke up at the meetings – they have shown that, by working together, it is possible for local people to influence what happens in our area.
Some of the longer-serving councillors on the Planning Committee voted for Orange’s phone mast application because they thought we would lose the appeal. For my part, I, and the other Lib Dem councillors elected last May, will continue to work to support Kilburn residents in whatever ways we can. CLLR JANET GRAUBER
(Lib Dem), Kilburn Ward
