Young people failed
• COUNCILLOR Syed Hoque is spot on with his comment on anti-social behaviour and the increasing difficulty in getting the council to do anything about it. The Lib Dems had much to say on it before taking power, not least executive member for safety, Cllr Ben Rawlings’s promises of more carrot and less stick in the form of better youth provision and fewer Asbos.
However, we’ve ended up with the worst of all worlds.
Youth clubs and activities for youngsters have been heavily cut while the council is refusing to take any enforcement action against dug dealers and gangs.
When will they tell us what they will do about these problems?
Your article on the Book of Grievance makes clear that we need more things for young people to do.
Teenagers have been deeply let down by the Lib Dem council abolishing so much youth provision – we will all pay the price in a more divided society. STEPHEN KAPOS
