Charles Dance joins bus protest

ACTOR Charles Dance has expressed concern over a decision that would send buses on a new route that goes past his Kentish Town front door.
Mr Dance, who starred in TV series The Jewel in the Crown, has joined a campaign by residents in Leighton Road to force Transport for London (TfL) to rethink plans to run the 393 bus along the street.
Mr Dance has written to his London Assembly member, Tory Brian Coleman, about the issue. He believes the road is too narrow for buses and that the number of speed cushions also makes it unsuitable.
Other Leighton Road residents have claimed the road is too narrow for buses travelling on a new route from Hackney, via the Nag’s Head in Holloway, to Kentish Town and Chalk Farm.
A contract has been signed with bus operator Arriva and the 393 is due to start running in July.
Leighton Road residents’ association chairwoman Sue Prickett said the residents had now to decide what their next step will be.
She said: “We have not made a decision yet. We are looking into appealing against this plan and taking it further.
“We are also thinking about lobbying the Town Hall to ask them not to give Transport for London permission to put bus stops along the road.”
