Challenge Cup Finals Special
CUP fever gripped Market Road on Friday as scores of talented young footballers battled it out for top honours in the Challenge Cup finals.
Hampstead under-10s were among the big winners on the day as they added the finishing touches to a magnificent treble. Having already won the league title and the prestigious London Shield, Hampstead clinched their third major accolade of the season with a hard- fought win over rivals Brunswick.
Captain Shane Cojocarel was the star of the show as he bagged a brace, leading his team to a convincing 2-0 victory.
Managed by Sean ‘Mourinho’ McCarthy, the all-conquering boys have now won five trophies in two season after winning the league and cup in the under-9s division last season.
There was double delight for Hampstead as Sean McCarthy’s son Danny led the club’s under-11s Hawks side to cup glory. Having finished as runners-up to Peel in the league, Hampstead finally netted the success they deserved when they beat Soccerscool 2-0 thanks to goals from Connor Jones and Luke Rushe.
Hampstead missed out on a hat-trick of wins when they were beaten 3-1 in the under-13s cup finale by ‘B’ league champions Elite Soccer. Charlie Dunkley opened the scoring for Elite before Jack Keeble doubled their advantage. Farouk Abdulrazaq gave Hampstead a glimmer of hope when he latched on to a neat flick from CJ Burke to pull a goal back. But any hopes of a revival were cut short when Charlie Adams struck a decisive third for Elite to round off a magnificent season.
Meanwhile in the under-9s cup final, goals from Louie Leong and Steven Alzate saw Futebol de Salao complete a league and cup double with a thrilling win over Isledon Wolves. Man of the match Tiago Amara put in an outstanding performance for Wolves, but couldn’t prevent his side suffering a 2-0 defeat against the unstoppable FDS side.
It took extra-time to separate Angel Islington and Bridge Rovers in the under-12s Challenge Cup final. After finishing goalless in normal time, Angel showed their battling spirit as they went on to seal a memorable 2-1 win thanks to last gasp strikes from Zach Johnson and Victor Zapatta.
In the final game of the evening, Park View Rangers, who finished an incredible 12 points clear at the top of the table, overcame Finsbury Park to complete a deserved league and cup double. Shaun Bailey opened the scoring before Adam Rowe added a second from the penalty spot. Ivan Tihatti was also on target as Rangers ran out 3-1 winners.
The win wraps up a double’ double for Rangers, who also won the league and cup last season in the under-13s division.
