Fantastic finale for thepeerless Gunner Girls
Women’s Football Round-Up
Premier League
National Division
Arsenal 6, Leeds 0
THE Quadruple winning Gunners finished the season without dropping a single point when they battered Leeds in their final game of the campaign on Sunday.
A Kelly Smith hat-trick, coupled with goals from Jayne Ludlow, Lianne Sanderson and Gemma Davison, ensured Vic Akers’ side maintained their unbeaten season’s record.
Arsenal’s England contingent more than played their part in a 4-0 friendly win over Iceland at Southend FC on Thursday night.
Gunner midfielder Katie Chapman collected the Player of the Match champagne for two vital goals, the second a delightful half volley from close range.
Her fellow Gunners Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith also found the net in the match, attended by almost 8,000 fans.
Greater London League
Cup Final
TREBLE glory is within reach for Tottenham Ladies’ Reserves as they take on Division Two South League champions Corinthian Casuals in the cup final at Bedfont United on Sunday.
Both teams are unbeaten this term, but with Spurs having already lifted the Reserve League title and the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy, the north Londoners are aiming to make it three out of three.
Spurs have scored 12 goals and conceded just one on the road to the final, with hot-shots Sam Garner, Jessie Richards and Faye Callaway sharing the goals tally.
And Richards will be looking to maintain her record of scoring in every round as captain Gill Blackmore leads the team of mostly under-18s players out on Sunday.
