PUPILS GO EXTRA MILE FOR ABUSED CHILDREN ON SPONSORED WALK
CHILDREN from Hampstead’s Maria Montessori School joined more than 20,000 other schools around the world in taking 100 steps for charity.
The sponsored walk, in Parliament Hill Fields, South Hampstead, was organised to mark the educational movement’s centenary year.
Money raised will go towards the Monroe Young Family Centre, Hampstead, which works with young children who have experienced abuse or neglect, and their families.
Karen Pearce, head of the children’s house at Hampstead’s Maria Montessori, said: “This event is about equality – a physical way of bonding children across the world. Children of all ages can walk 100 steps. All the steps taken by the children will measure the distance around the world.”
A centenary conference, organised by The Maria Montessori Institute AMI, Hampstead, is being held on July 14 at Regent’s Park College. |
