FITZJOHN’S Primary School in Hampstead said farewell to headteacher Cathy Joyner yesterday (Wednesday).
Former parents, pupils and teachers packed the newly-renovated hall at the Fitzjohn’s Avenue school to salute Mrs Joyner, who has taught there for 36 years.
Mrs Joyner said the £2.2 million renovation fulfilled a personal ambition.
She said: “I never wanted to be head. The only reason I took the job was to do something about the building.”
Pupils, who previously had to squeeze into the original listed building, now have space for PE lessons, drama, assemblies and music practice for the 50-strong orchestra.
New headteacher Rob Earrey takes over in September.
