German Shepherd Willow was electrocuted by a live lampost

£2,000 ‘blood money’ for electrocuted dog

A DOG owner whose pet was electrocuted by a live lamppost has described a £2,000 compensation payment for the death as blood money.
Electricity supplier EDF made the payment to Eve Miles, whose dog Willow died after coming into contact with a street light in Prince of Wales Road, Kentish Town, in February. The company will also pay £2,000 to Rescue Remedies, the rescue centre where she adopted Willow, a German shepherd.
Ms Miles, of Camden Street, Camden Town, said she was unhappy that EDF viewed the payments as a goodwill gesture rather than an acceptance of liability. She only accepted the money because she feared the rescue centre might lose out.
Ms Miles said: “It’s blood money. I miss Willow a lot. What I and the rescue centre wanted more than anything was for them to admit liability. What safety guidelines have been put in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again? I just hope there’s a proper formal investigation.”
The New Journal reported earlier this year how two other dog owners claimed their pets had been injured by live lampposts on the same road. It has since emerged the lamppost that killed Willow became live after a cable burned out, leaving it unearthed.
An EDF spokeswoman apologised at the time for the distress the death caused. It was the result of “a highly unusual type of fault”.

I think that payment of £2,000 is a disgrace.A animals life is worth much more than that and the fact they did not even take responcibilty for it is even worse.what if it had been a child.I own a gsd and i can not even imagine what ms iles had to grow through.I imagine it was very distressing.Edf should be ashamed of them selves.
