Fencers’ marker for Youth Games
TOP fencers from across the borough were in sharp form at the weekend when they scooped two medals to help Camden warm up for the London Youth Games in style.
The junior fencing team put up a magnificent performance as they won silver in their age group, before combining with the senior squad to capture an overall bronze.
The performance of the day came from Highgate’s Alex Tofalides, who overturned a nine-point deficit in both his quarter and semi-final showdowns.
There were further celebrations for Camden in the Gymnastics prelims when both the girls and boys floor and vault teams qualified for the finals at Crystal Palace in two weeks’ time. The boys artistic six-piece gym team have also secured a place in the finals.
Elsewhere, Angling team Jarrod Brunwin, Johnnie Rose, and Jay Law will also be among the Camden contingent hoping to net glory. In an exciting prelim held in Tylers Common in Brentwood, Johnnie netted the second biggest catch of the day as the triumphant trio booked their place in the finals.
