Ricardo’s the record breaker
TOP athletes from London Heathside were out in force at the weekend in a string of competitions across the country.
Among the top results saw Ricardo Beckford finish in eighth place overall in the English National Decathlon Championships, which were held in Stoke on Trent.
Boasting a consistent all-round performance, Ricardo sealed a new club record in the event as he battled his way through the 100m, 400m, 1500m, the 110m hurdles, the long jump, the shot putt, the high jump, the discus, the pole vault and the javelin to secure a grand total of 6738 points.
Meanwhile a team of 14 Heathsiders travelled to Watford for their latest open track and field meeting. Among the top performers were Luke McNally, who finished 10th in the 100m and 12th in the long jump, Jack Rainsford who came 13th in the 3000m and Alex Beattie-Child who came 20th in the javelin.
But like Highgate, the main event for Heathside came in Crystal Palace at the South of England Track and Fields Championships.
Despite missing out on the medals, Moses Arthur, Lanre Ali-Balogun, Ricardo Beckford and Ryan Wenzel all put in impressive displays.
