Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published:28 June 2007
A place in the country
• THERE is a solution to the lack of affordable housing in London! Many pensioners are living in council accommodation larger than they now require and are in fear because of the increasingly dangerous gangs of youths, even though they are not usually targeted. Many would like to move but not hundreds of miles away from their families.
Would it not be possible to create large, secure, villages on green sites in the home counties, using prefabricated homes with services, shops and local pubs within the boundaries? When the need diminishes, clearing the sites would be relatively easy.
This should ease the need somewhat in London and ensure that our senior citizens have a carefree retirement. ALFRED JOHN BENSON
