Helena Bonham Carter goes back to her roots at the South End Green Festival
ACTRESS Helena Bonham Carter defied grey skies and the odd rain shower to open her first South End Green festival on Saturday.
The star of A Room with a View and Fight Club, a former South Hampstead High School pupil, did the honours with Camden Mayor Dawn Somper, also attending her first festival.
More than 3,000 visitors turned out for the event, organised by the South End Green Association (SEGA), which included live music, community stalls, children’s games and food provided by local restaurants.
Urging the assembled festival-goers to “celebrate their local community”, Ms Bonham Carter, who was accompanied by her son Billy, said: “I have been reared here and my mother is over there so it is great for me to open the festival. Go and spend and celebrate our local community and be all nice and friendly to each other, which I’m sure you will be.”
