Honours for police who swooped on drugs ring
POLICE who smashed a drug dealers ring in Bloomsbury were among 27 officers who received commendations at the town hall on Friday.
Fifteen officers were commended for their roles in a drugs sting in Bedford Square last August, which saw five class A dealers jailed for a total of 16 years after undercover police exposed their network of up to 300 customers.
While CID officers were commended for their bravery and professionalism, community police in the area were also praised for working with residents.
Commendations went to Detective Inspector Colin Smith, Detective Sergeant Sean Tuckey, detective constables David Exell, Neil Scrimgeour, Richard Tribe, Deborah Landau, Mark Pearse, Tim Reece and Mark Harber, sergeants Iain Petrie and Darren Bone, PCs Foster Percil, Issy Webster, Emma Rickard and Christopher Turner.
Commendations also went to Sergeant Christopher Allonby and PC Louise Berry for solving a series of domestic burglaries and motor vehicle thefts.
Sergeant Graham Cross was honoured for outstanding bravery and professionalism in preventing a woman from taking her life, and PC Sarah Fairhurst was commended for commitment to the community of Holborn and Covent Garden over the last decade.
Commendations also went to PC Michael Shipton for dealing with suspects and victims at a violent burglary, Sergeant Richard Jacques for courage, leadership and professionalism at the scene of the terrorist attack at Russell Square Tube station on July 7 2005, and PC Craig Shenkin for his role as safer schools officer for Hampstead School.
PC Simon Ramasawmy and PC Ian Miller were praised for their initial response to a domestic murder, Sergeant Fiona Fraser for acting as a family liaison officer after a fatal stabbing and Sergeant Dominic Barnes and PC Mark Nisbet for commitment during a protracted inquiry into a large-scale public disorder incident.
