Super-pub ruled out
PLANS to build a super-pub in the heart of Camden Town have been rejected. The decision will come as a blow to Samuel Smith’s Brewery, which bought the Lock Keeper’s Cottage in Kentish Town High Street more than 15 years ago and has been fighting ever since for a pub there.
With permission to demolish the cottage, all that stood in the way of its dream to build a four-storey pub was Camden’s licensing panel.
At a heated meeting on Wednesday the application was thrown out by councillors.
But Kim Redman, who lives in one of the 55 homes opposite the site, warned the brewery, which plans to appeal, could still overturn Camden’s ruling in court.
She said: “The victory will be short-lived. I don’t believe the small man will beat the big man.”
