Pam Fitzpatrick is bid a fond farewell at New End’s summer fair.
Ex-pupils assemble as teacher retires
NEW END primary school headteacher Pamela Fitzpatrick hosted her 6,501st assembly on Saturday night for former pupils and parents who had come to celebrate her retirement. Ms Fitzpatrick, who has been at the school for 18 years, leaves in July – and in one of the farewell speeches, her colleagues worked out how many assemblies she had taken during her career at the school in Streatley Place, Hampstead.
Ms Fitzpatrick said that the era of Sats tests and the National Curriculum had changed the classroom immeasurably.
She now plans to open a bed and breakfast in Normandy, France, grow her own vegetables and keep chickens to feed her guests – and also has plans to buy two donkeys.
She said: “They are friendly and intelligent animals, and they will be nice to have about for the children.”
