Railway white washed
RailwayTaverners 106 AO
Washington 109-5
WASHINGTON took full advantage of a window in the bad weather on Sunday when they continued their winning ways with a five-wicket victory over the Railway Taverners at Hampstead Heath.
Returning to the ground where they first started playing in the late 1970s, Washington captain Shawn Hill won the toss and chose to open from the field as the two sides settled for a limited 30 over encounter.
Pick of the bowlers for the home side was man of the match Taran Persaud (pictured) who claimed a wicket with his first ball and went on to take 3-12 off six overs. Max Murrain also put in a committed performance as he picked up two wickets for 19.
James Self quickly mopped up the tail order as he took 3-13, restricting Taverners to a lead of 106 off 28.5 overs before the fall of their final wicket.
Washington openers Pete Demetri and Murrain got off to a disastrous start as their innings were cut short with a combined score of just seven runs. TJ O’Leary also came and went cheaply as he failed to score a single run.
But an unbeaten 72 from Paul Irons led Washington to victory, as he knocked up six sixes and six fours to earn Washington a winning score of 109-5 off 16.5 overs.
THE Middlesex County Cricket League was again washed out on Saturday when the continued bad weather saw matches involving Hampstead, South Hampstead, Highgate and North London postponed. |
