Children are still welcome at Oasis swimming pool
• I WAS extremely concerned to read of Bridget Giles’ experiences at Oasis leisure centre last week (Children are no longer welcome at our pool, July 5). Camden’s leisure facilities are open to everyone seven days a week and I would like to reassure her that children are always welcome when the pool is open for public swimming.
GLL turned her away when they were short staffed and unable to find an emergency replacement to provide the level of life guarding needed for children under eight years.
Unfortunately, a member of staff mistook this to mean all children.
This is not acceptable and GLL has assured us this will not happen again.
I have also asked officers to meet GLL to discuss Ms Giles’ concerns about feeling unwelcome when visiting Oasis leisure centre.
We should be encouraging more parents to follow Ms Giles’ lead, not creating barriers.
I hope this goes some way to restoring Ms Giles’ faith in Oasis leisure centre and that she, along with other parents and children, continue to enjoy the facilities. Cllr FLICK REA
