Broken boiler, broken promises

• RESIDENTS in Kiln Place in Gospel Oak were promised a new heating system if they voted conservative 18 months ago. Leaseholders were told they would not have to pay.
They were told this was an emergency and an exception would be made. In good faith, they voted Conservative.
Their newly elected councillor Chris Philp made the cause of heating in Kiln Place the subject of his maiden speech in the council chamber and trumpeted his triumph over the pages of this paper.
How hollow that looks now.
The leaseholders have found out they will have to pay for the heating now – no exceptions. They are looking at bills of at least £6,000.
To cap it all, residents have found out that the system won’t even be new. The council is intending to use the same boiler, with which there have always been problems.
Small wonder they have doubts about whether it will work and they know there will be no guarantees if it doesn’t.
