How easy is it to see your GP?

•ALL of us need to visit a doctor at some point. Unfortunately, as James Collins’s experience shows, some residents are finding this difficult to do (Doctor will see you… later, June 28).
In Camden, no GP surgery currently offers a weekend service and very few are open in the evenings. We have also heard of surgeries that do not allow people to book more than a day in advance, let alone the 48 hours that Mr Collins reports.
On July 17, councillors on the health scrutiny committee will be discussing access to GP services.
We will be reviewing a report from Camden Primary Care Trust (PCT), which is responsible for overseeing GP services. The committee will also look at evidence from the PCT’s public patient involvement forum.
But we want to hear of residents’ experiences, good and bad, of accessing GP surgeries. Have you had trouble finding a GP or have you had problems arranging to see your GP? Is there anything your local surgery does well? Can you always get an appointment when you need one? Does your surgery have a simple booking system? Would you like to see more evening and weekend surgeries?
