Youth summer soccer season ends on a high
Scores of young footballers turn out for seven-a-side tournament
SCORES of talented young footballers signed off for the summer on Saturday by taking part in a special seven-a-side tournament at Market Road.
Top teams from across Camden and Islington turned out in force for the Prime Soccer Championships, which have been jointly running at the Islington based Astroturf pitches and Primrose Hill Park over the past five weeks.
On Saturday Paradise Panthers (pictured) became the latest team to add their name to the list of winners when they beat All-Stars on penalties to clinch the under-12s trophy.
With five weeks of action coming to an end, the biggest winners were Peel who sealed a hat-trick of titles throughout their various age categories.
There was delight for Primrose Hill as they won two championships, while Isledon Wolves, Clissold Rangers, London Tigers and Somers Town all captured one accolade each.
More than a thousand promising young players took part in the ongoing tournaments, with organisers handing out nine major trophies and an incredible 600 medals.
Football Development Officer Chris Markoullis was delighted with how successful the competitions turned out. “The standard of football was incredible, and it was good to see so many talented young players making the most of their chance to play competitive football.”
The gifted young soccer stars will now take a deserved break over summer, but the triumphant teams won’t get to rest for too long as they prepare for the Camden and Islington Youth League and the Regents Park League.
Meanwhile, any girls who want to join in the action over the summer are being invited to team up with quadruple title winner Rachel Yankey for training sessions in Primrose Hill Park.
The former Hampstead School pupil will coach girls in the beautiful game at the Prime Soccer School sessions every Monday. Youngsters will be given the unique chance to practice drills, heading, match play and skills with the Arsenal and England star.
Held in association with Primrose Hill Soccer School, the sessions will be running between 3.45pm and 6pm and cost £7 each. For more information call Chris Markoullis on 07956 832 391.
