Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 19 July 2007
Backing for alternative businesses
•WE would like to offer sympathy to Sandra Gee who is closing her business, Hutton, in Camden Town (News Extra, July 12). We closed Lock One Batik Gallery at Camden Lock earlier this year for similar reasons.
When Eric Reynolds started Camden Lock in the 1970s it became famous for its eclectic range of quality hand-made craft stalls. High rents, excessive development and cheap second-rate imports have all but destroyed its charm. We urge north Londoners to support alternative traders and to encourage the creative spirit that makes Camden special before the corporate monolyths and get-rich-quick merchants destroy any more of its small businesses.
