Estates revamp announced
HOUSING chiefs have pinpointed four estates that will be part of a controversial improvement scheme – paid for by selling off council properties and deals with the private sector.
Tenants are to be asked their opinions on how vital repair work to their homes should be funded.
In some cases, the estates could be handed over to housing associations for them to pay for the improvements in return for a section of the land.
The named estates are Maiden Lane in Camden Town, Holly Lodge and Chester Road in Highgate and Rowley Way in West Hampstead.
Liberal Democrat housing chief Councillor Chris Naylor said: “This is not stock transfer. We are not going out to persuade tenants one way or the other.”
The move goes against a tenants’ campaign calling for the council to concentrate its effort on prising direct investment from central government.
