Arts head bows out with Bugsy
THEY could have been anything that they wanted to be, but they chose to be in a Bugsy Malone end-of-year extravaganza.
And for the 50-strong cast at South Camden Community School in Charrington Street, Somers Town, the show had special meaning.
It was the last spectacle to be directed by Fie Phillips, the head of performing arts at the school, who is leaving at the end of the term.
She is taking up an assistant headship in a Wandsworth school after 12 years at South
Camden.Ms Phillips described the move as “heart rending”.
Genco Ceki, who played Bugsy in the sold-out performances, which ran from Monday to Thursday last week, said: “She’s a really nice woman. Morale wouldn’t be as high as it is without her. She’s always cracking jokes.
It will be a loss for the school.” The budding actor also revealed he would love to play
Danny Zuko of Grease. “I used to watch that every day,” he said.
