Website property problems
• THANK god someone has some brains. I agree with your editor (A question of press freedom in the balance, July 12) about the bidding system the council is planning – changing the way it advertises how tenants can bid for a property by putting information on a website.
Not everyone has the internet. It’s very expensive and most council tenants don’t have a lot of money, obviously. It is stressful enough, trying to move, but if you don’t have access to a computer you have to use the library where computers are like gold dust, or go to an internet café. This is a problem if you have babies or toddlers as internet cafés are not child-friendly.
I enquired about bidding and the council/estate officer didn’t have a clue how it worked. I was told different things, like fill in a transfer form or a housing form. The system is complicated enough. M MARRID
