Online bids concerns

• I AM writing to express our concern about Camden’s proposals to move to purely online bidding for social housing.
This would seriously disadvantage many older people who do not have easy access to the internet or who are unable to use it due to infirmity, disability, homelessness or mental illness.
At a meeting on June 21 Age Concern Camden raised concerns about the difficulties for older people in using an online system for registration for social housing. This further development of a purely online system for bidding will give those people who do have access and are familiar with the internet an unfair advantage over those who don’t.
Camden’s older people need to feel confident that they will not be overlooked when bidding for social housing, at time when many are less able to cope with problems of everyday life but want to remain independent for as long as they can.
Age Concern Camden has requested that the council reconsiders any proposal that would restrict bidding to those with internet access.
