A tenants’ charter
• YOUR article MP calls for end of ‘get-rich-quick’ schemes (July 12) is right on the money. I am sure that all parties will agree we need a charter for council tenants which will enshrine their rights and entitlement whatever may happen.
Any prospective housing association should be ready to subscribe to proper tenant elections to their board, open board meeting minutes and agendas, open annual general meetings, properly supported tenants’ associations, access to procedure documents, an independently-run complaints procedure and an annual tenants’ satisfaction survey, universal and independently run.
Certain housing associations offer none of these, and if they are to become part of the lives of council tenants, they will have to change. PETER RUTHERFORD
