Ken comes up trumps
•MY child uses the facilities at Talacre on a regular basis. Local residents have been more than a little surprised at the decision by the executive sub-group committee to grant the stopping-up of Dalby Street.
Ken Livingstone has come up trumps for this neighbourhood, however, by recommending an inquiry into this affair (Well done to Mayor Ken for tackling the Dalby Street mess, July 19).
What is alarming about the Dalby Street saga is why it took so long for anyone in authority to catch up to the reality that there were major problems with this scheme and for common sense to prevail.
Dalby Street is not only a busy public highway, but one which is used extensively each year by some 250,000 customers of the acclaimed Talacre Community Sports Centre – its only road access. The reputation of the sports centre has spread far and wide.
I now hope that, thanks to Mayor Ken, the issues concerning this scheme will be addressed properly through the careful scrutiny of an independent inspector. ANDRE P FRANCOIS
