Drive for parking cash?
•CAMDEN is currently considering reducing the size of controlled parking zones covered by residents’ parking permits. It is clearly hoping to persuade residents to agree to this by appealing to both altruistic environmental concerns and self-interest. Call me cynical, but I suspect Camden’s real objection to intra-zone car journeys is that people don’t pay for parking at the other end. Smaller zones do not necessarily mean fewer journeys, they mean more parking revenue. What I want to know is, if a residents’ parking permit covers a smaller area, will we see a resulting reduction in the price of the permit?
I would urge all parking permit holders, and local business owners to write to their councillors objecting to any reduction in zone size. ELLIN STEIN,
Rona Road, NW3
