Spruce up for bridge that stars on millions of snaps

Camden Town’s best-known landmark, the railway bridge in Chalk Farm Road, was given a £25,000 facelift this week.
The unveiling of the spruced-up bridge, which has not been painted since 1989, was due to take place today (Thursday).
It is estimated that millions of visitors have had their photograph taken in front of the bridge, with its two workmen on a swing finishing off the lettering “Camden Town”.
Actress Kate Winslet chose it as the backdrop for a recent advert.
Cosmetics firm Garnier, the project’s main financial backer, stumped up more than £20,000 for the repainting as part of the launch of its slogan, “Take care, take care of the world around you”. Camden Council put in the other £5,000.
Camden Town Unlimited (CTU), an umbrella business group, enlisted Garnier’s support.
Councillor Keith Moffitt, Lib Dem leader of the council, revealed the bridge is so iconic it is used to represent England on the Eurostar train timetable.
