Anti-terror police step up stop-and-search
PEDESTRIANS in Camden can expect to be stopped and searched in the streets in an anti-terrorism drive, police warned this week.
Chief Supt Mark Heath, the borough’s top policeman, said that, although there was no “specific intelligence” to suggest an attack on London, “the threat from terrorism is real and serious”.
He added that the public would see a marked increase in visible security measures for several months.
Chief Supt Heath said: “Officers will continue to use their powers of stop-and-search. This will provide increased reassurance to the people of Camden. “It is important people continue with their normal routine. I would ask members of the public to remain alert and vigilant and to report anything suspicious to police.”
