Gunner’s greeting for Cup heroes
A TOP team of aspiring young footballers are set to get the thrill of their lives on Tuesday when they visit the Emirates Stadium to meet their Arsenal heroes.
Players from Camden based team Ashe Athletic were invited to Ashburton Grove after being crowned champions of the Gunners’ Ken Banham Trophy, which was held at Arsenal’s Hale End Youth Academy in east London.
The tournament, named after lifelong Arsenal supporter Ken Banham who donated the cup to the club back in 1986, has become an established fixture in the Junior Gunners’ calendar.
Having beaten scores of top teams from across the country to win the accolade, the under-12s super squad will now join the Arsenal first team for a special presentation on Tuesday at the annual Junior Gunner Awards.
The all-conquering Athletic team proved unstoppable as they powered their way to victory in the competition despite only having the bare minimum six players needed to take part in the tournament.
There was special praise for leading scoring Jacob Jervis-Bond, who scored in every round of the competition and won the Top Scorer Award with 10 goals, and was named the Player of the Tournament.
There were double celebrations when his dad and manager Everett Jervis was voted Coach of the Tournament.
Everett couldn’t hide his delight after the game: “The boys really proved to be the magnificent six. They’ve all made me so proud. I had six captains our there who led their team to victory.” |
