Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published:9 August 2007
Stables Market site is a precious piece of history
•I AGREE wholeheartedly with Graham Coxon’s judgment (Mediocre, hideous… August 2) about what is indented for the Stables Market site. Looking at the artist impression I am amazed that any developing company would even contemplate the idea let alone go so far as design it. The design would rape Camden’s atmosphere turning it into yet another corporate nightmare. The one-size fits all approach to town planning unfortunately fit’s no one. We already have plenty of corporate coffee houses, plastic burger joint and monster supermarkets; they are already draining the colour from Camden. Camden’s Stables is a number one tourist destination and has historical significance for London.
It should be listed anyway.
No one would dream of knocking down the Tower of London, yet it receives less visitors than the market. J CHARLTON
