Kate to play gig in support of Stables traders
CHART-topping singer-songwriter Kate Nash is playing a secret gig tonight (Thursday) to show her support for the Stables market traders. Kate (pictured) has vowed never to set foot inside the four-storey glass and chrome structure set to replace the current market.
The 20-year-old former shop assistant, who is currently number two in the singles charts, told the New Journal: “I’ll never shop there. I’ll never go in there because I’ll feel like that’s not why I go to Camden. I only found out a couple of weeks ago and posted a bulletin on MySpace and loads of people were coming back to me.”
She said she was asked to support the campaign against plans to modernise the market, adding: “They haven’t got many names and now because of my position in the chart I can put a bit of a profile on it.”
Camden Council approved plans for the four-storey development last October and the bulldozers are due to move in soon after the 55 businesses in the area move on.
More than 10,000 people have added their names to an online petition to Save Stables Market.
A Stables Market spokesman said: “All of the tenants have been invited to return to their original location and a large number of features are staying the same.”
