Students stay at home to save planet
CONCERNS about global warming and a competitive graduate job market are causing teenagers to spend their gap-year volunteering in the UK rather than travelling abroad.
An ‘eco-friendly’ gap-year is becoming increasingly popular among youngsters keen to reduce their carbon footprint by avoiding flying, according to CSV, a gap year organiser.
But that may not be the only reason ‘gappers’ are staying at home.
Is Szoneberg of CSV said: “As well as concerns about the impact of flying, rising university costs mean young people are also really keen to get experience that will help them land their dream job.
“Volunteering provides them with skills in communication, problem-solving, and team-building that should help them with any future job interview.” |
