Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 23 August 2007
Unkind cut
• IF readers of the Camden New Journal have ever wondered how their hard earned council tax is spent then let me enlighten them.
If you think your leafy garden street or estate is safe, then beware.
Somewhere, in a dusty council office file is a regulation size for shrubs and plants with the same dusty justification.
Then they come for them, rather their contractors, with that well-known handbook How to Garden with a Chainsaw. The Camden horror video is coming your way. It’s of little concern that thousands have been spent on landscaping. It’s over in minutes. Gone are the natural shapes and growth put on by shrubs over the summer. Flowerheads, buds, pollen, lopped off – it’s all in the handbook. A sort of ugly, misshapen stump is left, regulation size of course. Thought you would like to know. e mcnally
