Flying the flag has a role with social cohesion
• WE note with interest the recent comments on flying the Union Flag from the council offices.
The current council policy on flying flags is in fact the one we inherited from the previous Labour administration, and we can see that it’s got some inconsistencies.
We’ve been busy over the last year making significant progress in areas like service quality to residents, education, housing and environmental sustainability. But we do also recognise the symbolic role the Union Flag can have in supporting social cohesion.
So over the coming weeks we’re going to be discussing what the council’s policy on this should be going forward. CLLR ANDREW MARSHALL
Deputy leader of the council and leader of the Conservative group
CLLR FLICK REA
Deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat group
