A buzzer won’t bring me back to land of the living
• THERE is an old saying: “If you don’t like the plums, why do you shake my plum tree?”
People who complain about Careline don’t have to use the service.
The Careline alarm buzzer is a little luxury I can’t afford, not on my pension, but I manage pretty well without it.
“What you don’t have, you don’t miss”, another old saying.
If I am ill I call my GP. I have daytime and night telephone numbers.
I can also dial 999; this service should not be underestimated.
If I have a fatal fall, bad luck, the buzzer won’t bring me back to the land of the living.
Cosy little chats can be provided by the voluntary sector. There is an excellent and free Camden service provided by dedicated volunteers. They call you when it’s convenient for you.
They don’t chase lonely pensioners for the sake of meeting a target and entering your name in a report.
I am not criticising Careline. On the contrary, the buzzer is a great little device and it probably saves lives.
I wouldn’t say no to the buzzer – if it was free or affordable. NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
