Insight into St Pancras history
• A FEW weeks ago, I had the pleasure of discovering something of how the old Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras Station operated from its opening in 1873 until its closure in 1935. This was thanks to a guided walk around the outside of the marvellous old building with guides who spent over three years taking visitors on internal guided tours through this fine example of Sir George Gilbert Scott’s work.
They also gave an insight into how the coming of the station and hotel affected the surrounding area.
I understand the next guided walk will be on Sunday, September 23, and the numbers to ring for more information on this are 020 7323 1718 or 020 7370 1310. GENE MITCHELL
