Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 13 September 2007

Cuts will hit the vulnerable

AN open letter to the people of Camden.

I am writing to express my anger with Camden Council’s job cuts of workers in the temporary and supported housing group.
I am a resident in one of the the temporary hostels and at any given time there’s a person in the office who is always happy to help. These very people have gone beyond the call of duty to make my life much easier, whether it is housing advice or tips to help look after my new-born baby.
For them, it’s not just a job.
So you can imagine my anger when I found out that Camden plans to delete many posts, which means that not only would the person in the office not know my name but perhaps would not know me at all.
They’ll not even be in the hostel, which also prompts me to question the security of the building.
I am amazed that the council chooses to delete posts where its residents are the most vulnerable.
These include families with young children.
I assure you that the rest of residents feel exactly the same way.
