Somerset spread gets four stars from food critic

A PREVIOUS lunch date stopped leading food critic Giles Coren from tucking into his neighbours’ bountiful spread at the annual Lady Somerset Road street party to Sunday – but the food writer for The Times gave the celebration the thumbs up.
He said: “I am afraid I could not stay for lunch – a shame because it looked gorgeous and smelled wonderful.”
The party has a tradition of laying trestle tables down the middle of the road, with each household contributing a dish.
Despite missing out on the main course, he did take the time to run the rule over the cake stall.
He said: “I was particularly impressed with the baking.”
Mr Coren, who has lived in the terraced Kentish Town street for 15 years, added: “This is such a neighbourly street, and it makes it quite unique – not many places in London do this type of thing anymore. The place looked great without any cars and the bunting took me back to the jubilee.”
The annual event includes performances by neighbours, games for children and was first organised by long-term Lady Somerset Road actor Roger Lloyd-Pack as a way of helping neighbours become friends.
