Kebab shop’s 5am bid stirs new controversy
Protests against takeaway’s late licence application
A KEBAB shop has reignited the debate over the future of Kentish Town Road by asking for a late licence.
Residents have warned that the road is in danger of becoming overrun with late-night takeaways which are of little use to people who live there.
Erciyes Kebab is due to learn tonight (Thursday) whether it can stay open until 5am four nights a week and until 4am for the rest of week.
Professor Roy Foster, a lecturer at Oxford University who lives nearby, said: “In a family and residential area, already somewhat oversupplied and cafés and takeaway places, this extension would add to the disruption, noise and aggressive behaviour establishing itself at this end of Kentish Town Road.”
The state of the busiest road in Kentish Town has become a long-running debate which can be traced back at least two years when the Erciyes was first given permission to open by planning chiefs.
The shop’s licensing application has now stirred a new batch of protests.
Protests have been filed by Kentish Town Road Action, a group that wants to see diversity in the shops on the High Road, and nearby residents’ associations.
Ericyes’s licensing application says: “We will ensure that the footpath is kept clear of litter emanating from the premises. “Bins will be provided for public use and customers shall be encouraged to dispose of waste.”
