Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 September 2007

The route 393 bus is brilliant

THE new 393 bus is in Leighton Road for about a minute and a half and in Castle Road for 20 seconds.
What’s all the fuss about?
It is a brilliant cross-town route that has been missing for years.
Connecting Chalk Farm (Morrisons) with Kentish Town, Holloway, Highbury, Stoke Newington and Clapton.
Agar Grove has a 24-hour service with route 274.
I cannot see any harm with a single deck bus on one route only using Leighton Road. It won’t make it like Oxford Street, which is ankle deep in buses.
There is no danger from the bus, but there is from some of the cars that speed along the road.
Leighton Road is not too narrow for buses. They are of smooth, uniform, dimensions and quite able to pass each other without problems. The road is too narrow for parked cars and traffic islands.
I saw the fire engine drive the wrong side of all the traffic islands because of parked cars. The buses do the same when cars are parked too near the islands
Waiting at the top of Leighton Road for the 390 bus, a 393 arrived with standing room only, so it’s getting to be known as a useful service.
It takes a little time to achieve this. Earlier comment about low patronage was made too early.
So, please stop moaning about the new bus route and promote it and, please, do not park your cars too near the islands.
The comments about walking instead of using the bus miss the point. We have to walk to the bus stop. Give your walking message to car owners.
This bus is a good service and must be retained.
The service is provided for everyone. Don’t you care?
I notice no comment is made about the noisy 390 route at the top of Leighton Road. The only objection can be if the buses are shaking the houses to pieces.
Loose window frames don’t count.
It’s a good and useful service.
Be honest, there is something else bothering you that you won’t speak of.
