Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 27 September 2007
Thank you to Rose
• I HAVE enjoyed Rose Hacker’s column nearly every week since it started appearing.
It always causes memorable discussion in our household and we have even told friends from out of the area about you.
Imagine how surprised and delighted I was, while reading the book Can Any Mother Help Me?, about the Co-operative Correspondence Club, to discover that it was Rose Hacker who had been so instrumental in bringing it to the public!
I was reading the book for research purposes as I am writing a new musical based on the lives of Londoners over the last century and a half. Rose’s thoughts and work have inspired me to write a new character into the show – one who has lived through the last century and seen so many changes and who is still so vibrant and engaged. And it is so lovely to know that the real Elektra is still going strong.
I would like to say ‘thank you’ Rose for your inspiration and wish you all the best for the future – I look forward to reading your column for a long time to come. Michael Dresser, N1
