Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 27 September 2007
King’s loyal enemy aliens and others
• I WAS delighted to read in your paper of Dr Helen Fry’s tribute to The King’s Most Loyal Enemy Aliens (The Germans who bombed for Britain, September 6).
Readers may also be interested in another book which tells the histories of the Jewish refugees who comprised 3 Troop, number 10 Commando.
Many men from the Pioneer Corps volunteered to join this unit destined for extremely arduous and dangerous duties. Only 84 were chosen.
They were among the first to land on the Normandy beaches on June 6.
The existence of the troop was kept totally secret until long after the war.
Their story is told by one of the survivors, Austrian Peter Masters, born Arany, in Striking Back, published by Presidio Press. C Woolgar
