victory for district in exciting friendly
THE Camden District team kicked-off their new season on Saturday with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Bermondsey at Regent’s Park.
Sharpening their skills ahead what promises to be an exciting season for the year-six squad, Camden showed great strength as they came from behind to seal a friendly win over Bermondsey.
Having gone a goal down early on, Mahon Romeo pulled the scores level with a great individual goal.
Picking up the ball just inside his opponents half, Romeo, who goes to Lyndhurst School in Hampstead, raced clear of the defence before coolly slotting the ball past the keeper.
Camden keeper Conor Jones, who goes to St Dominic’s School in Gospel Oak, was in commanding form as he marshalled his penalty area with authority to make sure the hosts didn’t concede again.
The winner came midway through the second half when Luke Rushe, who attends Beckford School in West Hampstead, made the most of a defensive mix-up to steal in and hit a fierce drive past the keeper. The boys will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to the Douglass Eyre Sports Centre to take on Hackney.
It’s the final preparations for the 10 and 11-years-olds before they get their campaign off and running in both the Kay Trophy and the Lester Finch League.
