Art attack! touch of genius as soccer hotshots paint town red
PLAYERS from Kentish Town Football Club exchanged their boots for brushes as they painted the town red in the name of art.
The squad spent more than two hours a week over the past month crafting their colourful masterpiece.
The semi-professional club, which is currently flying high in Division One of the Spartan Midlands League, was invited to take part in the Art of Community project by Highgate artist Ros Lewis Williams.
The aim of the scheme is to encourage various groups around the borough to come together to create a work of art depicting the area they live in – and to
help highlight different aspects of their community in a unique tableau of exploration.
Club Secretary Cliff Rhodes said afterwards: “The project brought out a side to the players I’ve never seen before. By working together on the same canvas, they really bonded as a team and learned to respect each other’s space.”
The painting will be professionally stretched and framed before being featured in a special exhibition early next year.
Town’s League match against Winslow United on Saturday had to be postponed an hour and half before kick-off after the United team were involved in a road accident on the way to the game.
