Three charged over stabbings outside school
THREE people have been charged over a brawl outside a Somers Town school in which two teenagers were stabbed in the leg and another hit on the head with a hammer.
The fight at the gates of South Camden Community School in Charrington Street in May involved up to 40 youths.
The three men charged with public order offences are not pupils at the school.
Another two youths have been reprimanded for public order offences, while seven more were fined £80 for their roles in the skirmish.
A further 30 teenagers were referred to the Youth Inclusion and Support Panel at Camden Council, which works with young people at risk of offending.
Sergeant Dominic Barnes, who is in charge of schools officers in the borough, led the investigation. He said: “I have no idea why this fight took place but it could have happened along any other street. It’s just unfortunate it happened outside that particular school.
“This is a positive result for our officers, and our swift action. We want to send out the message that we won’t tolerate this behaviour.
“But this is an isolated incident. I have no safety concerns at that school. South Camden is no different to any other school in the borough.”
Sgt Barnes, based at Hampstead police station, said police were recruiting a schools officer for Maria Fidelis in Somers Town, the only school in Camden without a police presence at its gates. South Camden Community School had to wait for more than a year for its officer, who joined in September. |
