Night of honour for gymnastics stars

GYMNASTICS coach Karen Waldron was beaming with excitement after being presented with one of the most prestigious accolades in the country.
The leading instructor at Camden Gymnastics Club, Karen received the Bronze Merit Award in recognition for her contributions within the sport for the London region over the past five years. When Karen first joined Camden Gym Club more than 20 years ago it was a small group of youngsters based in a restricted sports hall.
Now the club boasts over 1,300 gymnasts from across Camden and Islington, who train in a purpose-built gymnasium at the Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town.
Karen and two of the club’s young stars, Chloe Edwards and Ariella Levine, met up with the President of the British Gymnastics Federation Brian Stocks at a special awards ceremony held in Tower Bridge. A third club member Holly Nevison, who has since returned to Canada also received an award. Karen was given a special certificate for her achievements in gymnastics, while the girls were also rewarded for their outstanding efforts for the London regional squad in this year’s National Finals.
Afterwards Karen said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have been acknowledged for my achievements within the sport. Gymnastics has always been a huge part of my life, and it’s just brilliant that I’ve been recognised for something I love doing so much.”

•Young star Ariella, who lives in Swiss Cottage, was back on the success trail at the weekend, winning silver at the Regional Championships at Heathrow.
