Devon makes splash on national debut
STAR swimmer Devon Robins (pictured) competed in her biggest competition yet at the weekend when she represented Middlesex in the National County Championships, which were held at the Ponds Forge Sports Centre in Sheffield.
Devon, 13, was one of three Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers to turn out for Middlesex as the championships attracted over 1,000 top competitors from across the country.
Under the guidance of club coach and county coach Dave Hobbs, Devon finished just 0.18 seconds outside her personal best time as she sealed a respectable 15th place finish in the girls’ 12-to-13 year old 100m breaststroke, recording a time of 1.21.07.
Devon also went on to put in a strong performance in her relay split in the medley, helping Middlesex finish sixth in the event.
Elsewhere club and county team-mate Harry Needs gave a good performance in the 14-to-15 boys category, while Edward Walsh swam a fast relay split of 23.73 to help the boys’ 16-to-17 year old medley squad take fifth place.
Middlesex finished 8th overall out of the 20 Division One counties on 359 points |
